With an increase in economic strength and life expectancy, the interest in health is rising and recently, mind-body training programs, such as meditation, yoga and qigong are being used in preventing and treating diseases. Especially, yoga can bring a lot of positive effects physically and mentally only using one yoga postures or proper respiratory control. Therapeutic effects of yoga reduce stress and tension and can be divided into physical effects on pain, cardiovascular diseases and immune functions and psychological effects on depression, anxiety and sleep. The purpose of this study is to find a way of realizing holistic nursing for mentality and body through yoga, among diverse factors, which are important indicators of health. This nursing study on yoga would contribute to development of methods of coping with stress among modern people by applying a nursing intervention to subjects with different life cycles and developing a yoga exercise, which consists of an education program for forming positive self-concept and a yoga program considering physical and mental characteristics from a nursing perspective. Moreover, it is considered that a yoga exercise can be widely used by skilled nurses as a health improvement program, which is suitable for characteristics and demands of subjects in various clinical sites and nursing sites including community heath centers, since its repeated and simple motions are easy to learn and it is possible to adjust motions and time for meeting the health needs of individuals.
